Consent, Capacity and Patient's Rights
Many complicated issues arise when a patient faces serious mental health impediments. The patient`s needs require assessment that balance their individual rights and public safety. The Consent and Capacity Board of Ontario is an independent tribunal consisting of lawyers, psychiatrists, and general members of the public. The board assesses patient’s capabilities and their ability to make decisions on their own behalf.

Other organizations exist to ensure that patient's rights are upheld during this process, and that the quality of treatment and care is satisfactory. They advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

To contact the Consent and Capacity Board of Ontario, call 1-866-777-7391.
